The Kimpton Schofield Hotel offers its visitors a unique spin on local culture and history. Its popularity led to a demand for new types of additional guest suites. A plan to convert a floor of existing apartments to hotel use was developed allowing for suites that accommodate larger and extended stay groups and individuals.
Named after the building’s original architect, Levi Schofield, the hotel’s expansion provides an opportunity to tell new chapters in his story. Levi was a founding member of the Ark Club, a local natural history society from the early twentieth century. The story of this society and the material palette of the existing hotel served as inspiration for the use of natural finishes such as oak flooring, walnut furnishings, and earthy tones including terra cotta that also references back to the building’s façade. Varying blue tones tie to the original hotel floors and are strategically used as accents on the new floor. Deep indigo portals frame the new guest suite entries and provide a transition between the refreshed common space and the suite interiors. Within the suites, color washed ceilings and drapery provide a soothing backdrop and soften the space. A custom-designed collection of furniture nods to different eras of the building’s long history. Tribute is paid to the rich musical culture of the city in the artwork and accessories such as the curated album collection. By expanding, the hotel is now positioned to offer guests a variety of ways to stay and experience more of the Schofield story.
