Our work is connective; forming bonds between people and places.
From dwellings to workplaces and hospitality environments; we strive to elevate the human experience with the physical environment. We consider the culture, needs, and aspirations of the users. We plan for varied levels of social interaction, operational efficiencies, and health-promoting features to achieve a balanced design. We think about how people really interact with a space down to the details, and how those details relate back to the big picture.
We transform places by uncovering their essence and optimizing their potential.
Whether reimagining an existing structure or conceptualizing new construction, we dig deep in order to understand the history, site, and surroundings of a place. By discovering what makes each location unique, we are able to compose and craft a response that is as contextual as it is original. Vigorously resourceful, we link each project with expert consultants and the best-suited building systems, materials, and technology. Our industrious Midwestern roots give us the know-how to make the most of what we have to work with and the resilience to see it through. The result is something with value far exceeding its cost.
“The StudioCRM team are exceptional designers who have a comprehensive understanding of how a project’s design, budget, and constructability work together. They have been instrumental in the visioning and implementation of our corporate office needs.”

We engage in projects that we believe in with clients who share our passion for thoughtful design.
The journey from concept to completion is an interactive experience between the design team and stakeholders where each contributes to the narrative through shared knowledge and mutual respect. This approach has formed many long-standing relationships and friendships with clients and consultants alike, many of whom we have completed multiple projects with.
Founded in 2009, the studio began as a natural extension of collaboration between architect Jeffrey Smith and the development team of CRM Companies. The entrepreneurial spirit of this venture has provided critical experience and proven results leading to an expanding list of clients and projects. Completed commissions include housing of multiple scales, workplace, hospitality, retail, and fitness.
Our growing body of work is recognized for consistent commitment to quality and design excellence.
The studio’s regular participation in design competitions includes an Honorable Mention and publication in the Coldscapes Design Ideas for Winter Cities for our “Portal” submission. Among our built works, The Seasons, The Ivory, and The Schofield adaptive reuse, mixed-use projects have all been recognized for their contribution to the revitalization of downtown Cleveland with Downtown Development Awards in their respective years of completion.
The Schofield has also been recognized with an AIA Cleveland Merit Award for Excellence in Architectural Design, an AIA/Cleveland Restoration Society Excellence in Exterior Restoration Award, and has been featured in several publications including Interior Design’s “6 Hotels Around the World are Destinations On Their Own”, Conde’ Nast Traveler’s “Readers’ Choice Awards Top 10 Hotels in the Midwest”, and U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hotels” as Cleveland's Top Hotel.
Whether an idea or a built work, our hope is that our thoughtfulness and passion is evident in what we leave behind.
